The 3 Tiers of My Detoxification Protocol: A Smarter Approach to Spring Cleansing

Spring is the perfect time to talk about trying a detoxification protocol. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this season corresponds with the Liver and Gallbladder organs and channels, which play a vital role in cleansing our blood, tissues, and gut. When these organs are functioning well, we often feel more emotionally balanced, less inflamed, and more clear-headed and decisive. But when the liver is overburdened with toxins? It can affect everything from our digestion to our joints, hormones, and moods.

Detoxing can be a powerful tool for healing, but many people dive in too fast—drinking green juices, fasting, or jumping on trendy detox plans. While these approaches can offer a quick seasonal boost (and they’re the focus of my Nourish to Heal program), deeper detoxification work—especially if you’re dealing with chronic symptoms or toxic overload—requires a more intentional, step-by-step process.

That’s where my 3-tier detoxification protocol approach comes in.

This method is grounded in both Functional Medicine and TCM principles, and it’s designed to support the body’s natural detoxification systems safely, effectively, and without overwhelming your system.

Let’s explore each tier.

Tier 1: Foundation & Drainage

Before you detox, your body needs to be able to eliminate safely and effectively. This foundational tier focuses on:

  • Supporting your liver and organs of elimination: kidneys, colon, lymph, lungs, and skin
  • Ensuring daily bowel movements
  • Reducing toxic exposures (e.g., plastics, tap water, synthetic personal care products)
  • Replenishing key minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium
  • Strengthening digestion

In TCM, this work aligns with restoring the Blood and Qi (vital energy) and ensuring all organs and channels are flowing with ease.

In my practice, I use a combination of lifestyle adjustments, dietary support, herbs and minerals, acupuncture, essential oil massage with cupping, and energy healing.

I also rely on Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) to determine when the body is strong enough to move into Tier 2. Once we see that adrenal-supportive minerals are within healthy ranges, we know the system can handle deeper detox work.

People with slow oxidation (revealed in HTMA) often need to spend more time here, as their bodies tend to hold on to toxins and can easily become overwhelmed.

Tier 2: Gentle Mobilization

Once the elimination channels are open and the body is more resilient, we begin gently mobilizing toxins out of tissues. This phase includes:

  • Natural binders: chlorella, fulvic acid, citrus pectin (get these and other high quality, professional supplements at my Fullscript store)
  • Glutathione or N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), as tolerated
  • Sweating therapies: infrared sauna, dry brushing, and movement
  • TCM herbal formulas to support Liver Blood and Qi
  • Emotional detox support, because stress is a toxin too
Order supplements through my Fullscript store.

This tier requires patience and careful pacing. It’s where people often overdo it and end up fatigued or inflamed. Working with a practitioner during this stage helps ensure that progress is steady and sustainable.

Tier 3: Deep Detox & Chelation

This final tier isn’t necessary for everyone, but it may be appropriate for people with:

  • Known heavy metal toxicity
  • Persistent autoimmune flares
  • Long-term chronic fatigue

Tier 3 can include:

  • Chelators like ALA and DMSA
  • Deep gut and mitochondrial repair
  • Retesting with HTMA, GI-MAP, Organic Acids, or Heavy Metal Urine Challenge
  • Ongoing nervous system and mineral support

Most of my clients are currently focused on Tiers 1 and 2—where the most foundational healing takes place. I’m ready to guide them into deeper detoxification when their bodies are truly prepared.

A Personalized Detoxification Protocol

If you’ve been thinking about detoxing, I encourage you to slow down and choose a smarter, safer path.

I help clients determine which tier they’re in and create a plan that supports the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. We begin with HTMA testing as part of my Personalized Detox & Health Optimization Program, which gives us clear insight into your mineral status and metabolic type.

From there, we map out the next steps that will help you feel your best—without the burnout or guesswork.
