Imagine having a quick and pleasurable way to experience anxiety relief and better sleep without needing to resort to pharmaceutical drugs! Even melatonin and CBD products can be misused; altering your mind and hormones. The qigong acupressure routine I share below is simple and effective, especially when combined with therapeutic grade essential oils. Ready to find your calm?
Stay Ahead Of Stress and Anxiety
It’s best that you do this acupressure qigong routine in a proactive way. If you know anxiety and sleep issues are already a problem for you, take some time out of your day to do this practice so you build a bank of relaxation and so it’s familiar to you. That way, you will be able to act quickly when you feel yourself getting overwhelmed. You can just take some slow deep breaths and do this practice to calm down.
It will still help you calm down, even if you do get over excited and anxious. It will just take a little longer. You also don’t want to add to the frustration of restless sleep if you only do this when you have been awake in bed for hours. Its a better idea to do this every night before bed in order to avoid that frustration.
Pericardium 8 Acupressure Point For Anxiety And Sleep
The main acupressure point we’re going to be working with is Pericardium 8 Laogong (P-8). It’s in the depression at the deepest point of the palm in between the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones (where the tip of the middle finger rests when curling the fingers into the palm).
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, P-8:
- clears heat from the Heart
- calms the spirit
- clears heat from the middle jiao (dan tien, energy center)
- cools the blood
What does that mean exactly?
In TCM, the Pericardium is considered the Heart protector. And both the Pericardium and the Heart are organs that are related to the emotions of overexcitement, anxiety, and mania when out of balance. They are also related to the element of Fire and the season of Summer.
An excess of heat in these organs and the channels that traverse them can create a sensation of heat rising. The emotional overwhelm that results can disturb the “spirit” of a person, making it hard to regulate emotions and sleep at night. Treatment for excess heat is to clear it and bring it down out of the upper body.
Heat can also build in these organs and channels when there is a deficiency of Kidney energy which is associated with the water element. When there’s not enough water to cool and ground a person, heat rises. The treatment is to tonify the energy of the Kidneys which indirectly clears heat.
The qigong acupressure routine we’re doing here will address both of these imbalances. With both acupressure and qigong we’re regulating the smooth flow of qi that is our vital energy.
We can regulate this vital energy through:
When the energy is free-flowing, we are healthy we are vibrant, get plenty of sleep, and are emotionally balanced.
Qigong Acupressure Routine For Anxiety Relief & Better Sleep
All you need to do this qigong practice is a quiet space. Also make sure you have enough room to stretch your arms out. It can be done standing or sitting in a chair. Either way, try to have your feet firmly in contact with the floor to help you ground your energy.
I’ll be incorporating aromatherapy with doTERRA Adaptiv and Rose essential oils. Adaptiv is my go-to for regulating emotions. Rose is a high vibration essential oil that is perfectly aligned with the energy of the Heart.
