5 Gentle Body Reset Tips After Summertime

Summer brings freedom, fun, and often… a bit of chaos in our routines. Late dinners, spontaneous outings, indulgent snacks, and disrupted sleep can all take a toll on your digestion, energy, and overall well-being.

As my own family gets ready for the back-to-school transition (after eating dinner at 9 PM last night — way off our usual 6 PM schedule!), I’m focusing on gently restoring structure so we feel balanced and energized heading into fall.

If you’ve noticed bloating, sugar cravings, fatigue, irregular bowels, or disrupted sleep lately, you’re not broken — you may just need a reset. Here are five simple ways to recharge your digestion and daily rhythm after summertime.

1. Reset Your Morning Hydration & Meals

Start your day with a big hydration boost — lemon water or 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 16 oz. of filtered water.

  • Why it works: Both options help stimulate digestion and peristalsis (the wave-like muscle contractions that move food through your intestines).
  • Extra benefits:
    • Lemon water provides vitamin C for immune and skin health.
    • Apple cider vinegar helps regulate blood sugar and supports healthy gut flora.

Continue hydrating throughout the day and include electrolytes to replenish minerals lost to stress and sweat.

For breakfast, aim for 30g of protein and some healthy fat to keep you satisfied until your next meal. This also helps balance cortisol (your stress hormone), which naturally peaks about an hour after waking.

2. Rebuild Digestive Fire

Get back to whole, organic foods while avoiding excess sugar and alcohol. Support your digestion with mindful eating — no multitasking, and chew your food thoroughly to kickstart digestive enzyme activity.

You might also consider:

  • Digestive enzymes with meals
  • Herbal support like peppermint, fennel, or tangerine essential oils (diluted for belly massage)
  • Post-meal movement such as gentle qigong or a short walk

These small habits improve nutrient absorption and keep your elimination regular.

Essential oils, digestive enzymes, ginger drops, and probiotics to improve digestion, regulate bowels & constipation, reduce bloating and gas.

3. Clean Up Energy Leaks

If you’re feeling drained, ask yourself: Where is my energy going that doesn’t serve me?

Common culprits include:

  • Too much screen time or social media scrolling
  • Late nights and irregular sleep patterns
  • Caffeine too late in the day
  • Overtraining without enough recovery

You might need to say “no” to certain commitments or scale back your workout intensity for a while. Adding adaptogenic herbs can also help your body recover from chronic stress.

4. Add One Weekly Rhythm for Structure

A complete lifestyle overhaul isn’t always sustainable. Instead, try adding just one intentional rhythm to anchor your week.

Ideas include:

  • Meal-planning Sundays so you’re set for the week
  • Morning movement routine (stretching, qigong, walking)
  • Batch-prepping lunches for yourself and your kids

Keep it light, flexible, and loving — the goal is to feel supported, not restricted.

5. Know Your Entry Point

Not everyone starts with food or body care when trying to get back into balance. Sometimes, it’s better to focus on your emotional, mental, or spiritual health first.
